Citizenship Pillar Summary

Citizenship (or service) is a very special pillar in our Brighter Together Chapters by increasing awareness of a local need or concern and empowering members to take action. The process of Citizenship will allow members to select, learn and possibly partner with an organization or agency to volunteer as a chapter.  The goal of this pillar is to increase community awareness and involvement, provide members with a united philanthropic opportunity, and create deeper connections within the local community. Note: This pillar differs from the WE Connect program in that Citizenship focuses on a local organization in your community and WE Connect is global.

Below lists the schedule for our Citizenship will be incorporated in each of your chapter workshops:

Workshop #1 Your coordinator will explain the pillar of Citizenship, including how it will evolve over the course of the year and share what will happen at each of the four workshops. After this first workshop, members can start researching local organizations that align with Brighter Together’s mission.

Workshop #2 Members can elect to nominate a local organization that will potentially participate in workshop #3.  Members will then informally share 2-3 minutes at workshop #2 using the list below as a guide.

Suggestions on what could be shared:

  1. How did they learn of the organization?

  2. Why is the service of this organization so important and needed in your local community?

  3. What is the organization’s mission and how does it align with Brighter Together’s mission of empowering women?

  4. Background of the organization:  What their primary services are, how they are funded, and what are they in need of most?

  5. What would be the awareness that you see the organization bringing to your chapter and what are the call-to-action needs of that organization.  How can members get more involved, if they desire?

Once members are finished sharing their nominations, a vote will take place by the members to determine a first and second choice.

Workshop #3- Citizenship is the focus pillar of this workshop and the selected organization will present as the honoree speaker.

**Optional** In between the 3rd and 4th workshop, the members will carry out their call-to-action service.  Brighter Together does not provide direct funding to outside organizations, however, a chapter does have the ability to mobilize a call-to-action with their service.  Options could range from promoting (sharing awareness) of the organization on social media, telling three friends about the organization, participating in an event sponsored by the organization (ie. a team walking for breast cancer awareness), and/or assisting the organization for an afternoon, etc.

Workshop #4- A wrap- up or summary of the local organization will be shared.

We encourage you to identify organizations in your community to nominate in your chapter. This is a wonderful opportunity to raise awareness for a local organization –Jump in and share on behalf of a local organization!!
